How long does an print order take to process?
When your print order is received I place a print order with my print studio. It can take up to a week for them to return your print to me ready for shipping. For UK based orders please allow 7-10 days for delivery. For Europe please allow 10-14 days and the rest of the world approximately 4 weeks. If any delay is anticipated I will contact you to discuss but if you have any questions at any time please contact me :)
How are the prints shipped?
All prints are shipped rolled in extra strong and wide diameter postal tubes to ensure prints are not rolled to tightly. They are rolled together with acid free glassine paper to protect the print surface when rolled. Prints are shipped using a reliable carrier and using a tracked service.
How do I handle the print when it arrives?
I will include an information sheet about this with the print….. but in the meantime………. when your print arrives in the tube carefully remove the packaged tape around the tube ends and remove the end cap. I make sure that the print is packaged within the tube tightly enough to be secure and not move around in transit but not too tight for it to be difficult to remove from the tube. To unroll the print, carefully free the small tape tabs (I always put a small fold at the end of the tab to make this easier for you). The image side will unroll face down on top of the acid free protective glassine paper. I recommend to allow the print to naturally unroll for half an hour or so on a clean flat surface before further handling. I will provide you with a pair of cotton gloves which I recommend you wear when handling the print. Always avoid touching the actual image surface. Each print has a 2” white border around the edge to allow safe handling (with the gloves on). As always if you have any questions at any time please contact me.
What is a Giclee fine art print?
To qualify for the title of a ‘fine art giclee print’ it should be made on archival quality coated paper and printed with pigment based archival inks, which are UV stable. To achieve a very high standard of colour reproduction a typical giclee printer uses a 12 colour pigment based ink set. The Fine Art Trade Guild has set minimum standards for a giclee print - it must score 6 or more on the Blue Wool Scale for light fastness, with an acidity level of between pH7 and pH9, to minimise discolouring. I use a Photo Rag paper from Hahnemuhle paper mill who have been producing mould made artist papers for over 435 years.
How long will a fine art giclee print maintain its quality for?
A giclee print made using pigment inks can be lightfast for up to 100+ years. By using pigment based archival inks, the archival properties of a giclee print are significantly higher than the traditional silkscreen or litho prints.
Do you accept commissions?
Not as such, however, I am always open to possibilities especially if they are ape related :) I always try to use my own reference photographs or those from the organisations I support for my paintings but if you have a reference image I could use I would be really happy to hear from you……
